FAQ for Students
-
Before the Exam
-
Do I need a working camera?
Yes, if it is a distance examination where continuous video monitoring is mandatory.
-
How and until when can I withdraw from an examination?
You can withdraw via AGNES up to one day before the examination date. The withdrawal must be completed by 23:59 on that day at the latest. After the deadline, withdrawal is no longer possible, even if you are already logged into AGNES and have only not yet completed the withdrawal with a TAN.
-
How can I enrol in the Moodle exam course?
You will be informed by your examiner whether you will be registered (in which case you do not have to do anything) or whether you have to register yourself (in which case you will also receive a registration key).
-
Is the distance examination recorded?
No, storing the audio and video data is prohibited.
-
I have a reading/writing disability, do I also get extra time if I take the exam on the computer?
In principle, you can always submit an application for disadvantage compensation to the responsible examination board (§ 109 ZSP-HU). In this application, you must explain why you are requesting compensation. The examination board decides on your application and the form of compensation.
-
My lecturer has enrolled me in the exam course, but I don't see the course on the dashboard.
This is because your lecturer has not yet made the course visible. The course will be visible on the exam day at the latest.
-
Where can I find the examination course on the day of the exam?
On your Moodle dashboard. Please make sure that you have the current semester switched on.
-
Do I need a working camera?
-
During the exam
-
Do all exam takers have the same questions in the exam?
You should not necessarily assume this. Exams may contain random questions, i.e. questions for each examinee are drawn at random from a pool of equivalent questions. In addition, examiners may also provide several equivalent exams in parallel, which are randomly assigned to groups that are not recognisable to you.
-
Does the submission happen automatically at the end of the exam period or do I have to click on a button ("Submit" or similar)?
As a rule, a submission button must be clicked in the test module (multiple choice, etc.). There is a clear feedback that the submission of files or the answering of test questions has been completed.
In the Assignment Module (e.g. uploading a file at the end of the examination period), the submission is also controlled by buttons.
Be sure to take the opportunity to participate in mock exam offerings to go through the exact process.
-
Can I hand in the exam before the end of the time available to me?
Yes, simply upload the exam paper or click the submit button.
-
Can examiners require me to have my camera on?
Yes, if it is a written exam in distance and you did not use your right of choice (choice of an alternative examination form) when registering for the examination.
-
If my computer breaks down during the exam, can I use another device to log back in for the exam?
Yes, you can. Please note, however, that time will continue to run. You should inform your examiner of the problem.
-
What if I have to go to the toilet during the exam?
In principle, you can go to the toilet at any time. If you are taking part in a written exam in distance, i.e. an examination with video supervision, you should inform the supervisor of your absence using the chat in the video conferencing system so that you do not suffer any disadvantage (suspicion of cheating).
-
What if I click "No" on the explanations (data protection, health, rules for examinations)?
You can only take the exam if you agree to all the statements. If you click on "No" for one of the explanations, this will be considered as a non-appearance for the examination.
If the non-appearance remains unexcused, the examination will be assessed with a "fail".
Otherwise, a non-attendance that is excused with a valid reason is considered as a non-attendance.
Special regulations according to BerlHG § 126b do not apply here.
-
What happens if I make a typing error in an automatically corrected exam (e.g. in cloze texts without selection)?
If a typing error does not distort the solution in such a way that it is not recognisable what you meant, statements with typing errors are considered correct.
-
What if my internet connection breaks down in the middle of the exam?
Please make a note of the time of the breakdown. Then try to restart the computer or browser. Log into the exam Moodle (again). You can continue your exam from where you left off.
You should inform your examiner about the technical problem and ask for an extension of the writing time. You can then clarify everything else with your examiner.
-
Who can I contact if I have technical problems during the exam?
Your examiners should have already given you a contact option before the examination (in the examination course). The contact persons are always the examiners or other appointed supervisors, who are supported with a handout on help options.
-
Will there be a possibility to ask questions to the teaching staff during the exam period?
Yes, your examiners should be available to you during the exam. This can be by phone, chat or video conference and will be determined by your supervising examiners.
-
After submitting the exam, will I be shown that it was successful, e.g. with a confirmation email?
You will receive an e-mail confirmation after submitting your examination results, provided that the performance in the module "Assignment" or in the module "Test" was completed in the Moodle course and your lecturer has not turned this off.
-
What data is transferred to the HU Zoom Meeting when I dial in via the Moodle plug-in?
If you are already logged in to HU-Zoom, then only an email comparison will take place and no data will be transferred from Moodle to HU-Zoom at all.
If you are not logged in to HU-Zoom, your username will be transferred from Moodle to the HU-Zoom meeting.
If you want to avoid the transfer of data from Moodle to the HU-Zoom meeting, you can also copy the (joining) link, paste it into the browser, enter the meeting ID from the end of the link and the password (see Moodle plugin). This way you join the HU Zoom Meeting pseudonymously.

Do all exam takers have the same questions in the exam?
